BEEPO & POGO
Experimental Design: Dual-Entity Magnetic Systems
DESIGN OVERVIEW
PROJECT STATUS: Shipped (Collaborative Prototype)
Beepo & Pogo was a fundamental exploration into **simultaneous multi-character control**. The challenge was to move beyond simple platforming and create a cohesive puzzle language based on the laws of magnetism.
As the Lead Puzzle & Level Designer, I architected a series of spatial challenges that required the player to master "Push and Pull" mechanics. By utilizing the magnetic attraction and repulsion between the two leads, I developed a gameplay loop where navigation is itself the puzzle—turning every gap and obstacle into a test of synchronization and physical logic.
KEY OBJECTIVES
- Polarity Logic Design: Conceptualized and implemented the core "Attract/Repel" puzzle mechanics, ensuring consistent physical behavior across 3D environments.
- Level Pacing & Complexity: Designed a progression curve that introduced magnetic concepts in isolation before layering them into complex, multi-stage spatial hurdles.
- UX/UI Clarity: Developed the visual and interface language (UI/VFX) to represent invisible magnetic forces, providing the player with essential feedback for character positioning.
- Systemic Synchronization: Collaborated with Art and Animation to ensure character feedback (movement and reaction) accurately telegraphed current magnetic states.
